Club Meetings

The Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau meets monthly on the first Tuesday of each month.   The meetings begin with dinner followed by a program and ending with the business meeting.  In addition to the monthly meeting there are committee meetings that plan the projects and programs for the club.  Members are encouraged to attend meetings regularly to keep well informed as to the activities of the club.

Membership Responsibility

As a member, you are responsible for attending club and relevant committee meetings.   Members must pay all dues and fees promptly.  You will be called upon to serve in leadership roles and give your time, talent and support to the organization.   Members are expected to complete at least 20 service hours each year.  We are an active service organization and are committed to making a difference in Southeast Missouri and Internationally.

Eligibility & Classification

Membership is open to executives or professionals in business or professional occupations.  Members must be working at least 50% of a normal week and will to support the objectives of Zonta.  Member classification is based on occupation and the Zonta classifications system.  If you do not know a current Zonta Member, you may request information by sending an inquiry to Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau

Membership Process

New Member Procedure for the Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau Area

Don’t we ALL know wonderful individuals who would make good Zontians?  Here’s how to bring them into our club:

1.                  Submit a membership form to Membership Committee Chair Heather Brooks.  They can be obtained from Heather, copied from page 128 in the Club Manual or use the form below.  If you do not have a Club Manual, dated December,1999, please contact Jan Ruopp.

2.                  The Membership Committee will classify the potential member, and if accepted, will present the name to the board for approval.  If the proposed member is a former Zontian, their application will be reviewed and forwarded to the board for “reinstatement”.  Once reinstated by the board, you will be notified and they can return as full members.

3.                  Once the board approves the potential member, you will be notified by the Membership Committee that they have been approved.  (If you do not hear from the Membership Committee and a month has gone by, please contact Heather Brooks to make sure she received the application.)  You will be asked to invite them to our next meeting so they can know more about whether or not they want to join.  Their meal is provided.  Please remember to contact Juanita Penfield, Attendance Committee Chair, when they will be visiting so a meal can be arranged.

4.                  At their first meeting, the Membership Chair will give the potential member a letter which explains the responsibilities of membership in Zonta and offers membership to them into Zonta International.

5.                  When the potential member accepts the membership offer, you will be notified, and initiation will be scheduled.  Until they are initiated, they are encouraged to attend our meetings and will be charged for the meals.  They will be placed on the attendance list and contacted each month like regular members.  They will be placed on the e-mail list to receive the Zinger.  The Membership Chair will work with them on initiation dates so they will not be charged full year dues when joining late in the year.  New Beginnings Committee will schedule orientation sessions when there are enough new members to warrant it.

6.                   We encourage you, as their sponsor, to stay very involved in the new member’s first year, calling about meetings, asking them to join in service projects, etc.

Our success as a club depends on growth and new members.  We encourage “each one to reach one” and help grow our club!
